More 2016 Christmas Parade and Party from Maggie Horn

Here are some pics from the LPV Christmas Golf Cart Parade that happened on Friday the 16th. It seems the parade gets larger every year. This year we had 25 carts dressed in holiday lights and tinsel parade all around the park. In coordination with the Singspiration group we stopped at several homes of people we felt could use some special Christmas Cheer. Then the entire group of us (more than 60 in all) gathered together and sang Carols to them and delivered a gift of Christmas Cookies. It was heartwarming for all of us. After the parade we all gathered at the Clubhouse and enjoyed a hot toddy and cookies ourselves. This is always a really fun event.

Free Daytripping around Lakeland

We live in a great spot. There is plenty to do and see around our area and it doesn't have to cost anything. November is a good time visit these free sites.

You can walk around beautiful Lake Hollingsworth. This is the view from Florida Southern College on the lake.

Or ... you can visit Circle B Bar Reserve to see the alligators, birds or armadillos.

Or ... take a walk around Hollis Gardens on Lake Mirror downtown.

Veterans Day Flags

I managed to get a few shots of our flags this year. Sorry, I didn't get around to every street. They looked great. You can click to enlarge any of the photos on the blog.

Butterflies in LPV

Ann also sent me some butterfly photos from the Haltamans next door on Lake Erie and Mary Lou Bettis on Lake Huron. That's Mary Lou with one of them attached to her eyeglasses. We have seen lots of butterflies this November.

Snake In The Grass

Look what came trick-or-treating today! This guy is about five feet long and was right inside my dog's playpen. My dogs ran right at it and it reared up with its mouth open ready to strike. Thank goodness my neighbor spotted it and shooed Ralph & Alice away. What a Halloween scare!

After a little research we now know it was a water moccasin, also known as a cotton mouth. They are venomous. He eventually slithered back into the nature preserve behind our house. I think we caught a break today.

DID YOU KNOW...???

May 20,1970 Florida lawmakers passed and sent to the Governor a bill adopting the moonstone as the official state gem.  Ironically, the moonstone is not found naturally in Florida...nor was it found on the moon.
